Artwork Guidelines & Templates
Unless otherwise stated our prices are based on artwork being provided and set-up correctly, ready to print, with bleed and crop marks where necessary.
Please refer to the following guidelines for general information and our templates for specific requirements where necessary.

Artwork Guidelines...
The way you need to set up your artwork for printing is basically the same, irrespective of whether you are preparing artwork for a business card, leaflet or playing card etc.
Crop Marks and Bleed:
Corner Crop Marks, (shown in the red circle below), show where we need to cut the paper or card.
Your artwork should extend beyond the final cut size, (represented by the red dashed line), by 3mm or more. This is called Bleed.

This image shows the Corner Crop Marks, (shown in the red circle) and the background image extended into the bleed area.
This image shows how the image will look after trimming to the crop marks. The bits of the image in the bleed area are discarded.
This PDF would not be correct - as it has no crop marks and no bleed.
Note: If your artwork has nothing that goes to the very edge of the page - then it would be OK to provide a PDF like this!

Colour Management
Depending upon what you are having printed, you will get the very best colour matched results by following these guidelines:

Fine Art, Photographic & Giclee Printing - Use RGB and see notes below regarding colour profiles.
Leaflets, Booklets, Stationery, Business Cards & General Posters - CMYK preferable, but RGB is acceptable. (Pantone Colours are also an option if we are printing using 'Lithographic Printing'.
Large Posters, Display Graphics & Banners - RGB or CMYK (RGB for more vibrant colours or CMYK for accurate reproduction).
Game Boards - RGB or CMYK (RGB for more vibrant colours or CMYK for accurate reproduction).

Our large format printers, used for reproducing fine art & photography, have special RGB inks that can reproduce RGB colours more closely. So if this is the service we are offering you - please keep your files as RGB, (with a wide colour gamut ICC profile).
Colour Profiles...
If you look carefully at the colour comparison chart, you will see that the various RGB colours contain a greater/wider range of colours compared to CMYK colours, used in most commercial printing presses. Choosing the correct colour profile is important at the very start of any printing workflow - to help ensure consistent colours are reproduced every time.
A lot of entry level camera's shoot in S-RGB, better cameras often have options to shoot in a wider colour gamut such as Adobe 1998.
If your files are S-RGB we will print in S-RGB to ensure colour accuracy. If you work in Adobe 1998 - we will printing in Adobe 1990 to help achieve stunning results!

RGB vs CMYK, what's the difference?...
The Big problem with thin borders around the edge of your design:
In a perfect world we would be able to print & make everything perfectly accurate, however there can be a very slight movement in the mechanical process of printing, trimming and die cutting. This is especially true of anything that is die-cut or laser-cut, including: Playing Cards • Tiles & Counters • Stickers.
The following images show the problems and offer a solution...
This particularly applies to Playing Cards, Tiles & Counters and Stickers!
This example shows a 25mm token with a thin white border. (It could equally be a playing card or sticker).
This image simulates the result of die-cutting just 0.5mm out of alignment and highlights the pitfall of having a thin border.
A much better result is achieved by not having a border at all. Even if the die-cutting is a fraction off-centre, the results remain great!
Don't forget to add a minimum of 3mm of bleed.

The following example PDF is for an 8 page A5 stapled booklet, but the principles apply to any shape or size of booklet you require.
Requirements:

Colours: Black/Grayscale, RGB or CMYK. (CMYK for accurate reproduction).

Specific requirements:
Stapled Booklets: Please provide a multi-page PDF. If, (as per this example). The first page of your PDF will be the front cover and the last page of your PDF will be the back cover. If your booklet has images or graphics that go to the very edge of your pages - you will need to add 3mm of bleed and extend your graphics into this bleed area. When you export/save your PDF - ensure that you add 3mm of bleed and crop marks if you can, (see below). If you are using software that does not allow you to add bleed - just make sure your text and page numbers, (if used), are at least 6mm away from the edges.
Books, Documents & Dissertations: Please provide a multi-page PDF. If, (as per this example). The first page of your PDF will be the front cover and the last page of your PDF will be the back cover. If your booklet has images or graphics that go to the very edge of your pages - you will need to add 3mm of bleed and extend your graphics into this bleed area. When you export/save your PDF - ensure that you add 3mm of bleed and crop marks if you can, (see below). If you are using software that does not allow you to add bleed - just make sure your text and page numbers, (if used), are at least 6mm away from the edge of your pages. If you are having book binding, perfect binding or thermal binding - we also recommend having a minimum 12mm inside margin, ideally 20mm or more.

1. For laser cut prototypes & short runs, there are no restrictions, however for larger print runs - items must be a minimum of 6mm apart. (see punchboards for more details).
2. Although we endeavour to die-cut accurately, the tolerances of our process is + or – 1mm in any direction, so avoid thin outlines & printed borders and allow plenty of bleed.

Note: The cutting force required is based on the total length of the items you have on your board, if you laid them out in a straight line.

The tollerencies of the kiss-cutting process is + or - 0.5mm, so please factor this into your artwork.
Make sure your artwork is set to the correct scale.
Uness your stickers have a white background, (like this example), we require 3mm of bleed.
If you need multiple copies of the same design - please provide a PDF with just one sticker, (not multiple on a page). We will step & repeat them to match the paper or vinyl chosen.
If you have multiple designs - you can provide a multi-page PDF, or arrange them on a sheet all together, (allowing a minimum of 5mm between each sticker).
With the exception of square & rectangular stickers, we require a 'vector based' cutting guide. Please see the example PDF's below and send us all three. If you can't provide this - we can take care of it for a small fee.

Kiss-cutting swatch - for creating vector based cutting guides for stickers, tiles & counters etc
This is an Adobe ASE colour swatch file, which you can use with both InDesign, Illustrator or similar.
You don't need to use this swatch when creating a vector file for us, but it will help us and may help you better understand the process.
Wide colour gamut colour profile, (Adobe 1998 ICC Colour Profile)
This profile has a wider colour gamut than sRGB. If we are printing your photographic images to our wide gamut Canon large format printer - using this profile may help you to get the best colours out of your work. You can also use it for large posters, display graphics and game boards that you've designed in RGB rather than CMYK.
